Stevie Yazzie Set To Join Lady Railsplitters For 2012-13 Season

HARROGATE, TN — Stevie Yazzie has signed a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Lady Railsplitters, head women’s basketball coach Roger Hodge announced Friday afternoon. Yazzie is the fourth signee for LMU in the signing period as she joins Kortnay Cox, Haley Nelson and Britney Guy.

Yazzie comes to the Lady Railsplitters by way of Crystal, New Mexico and Navajo Pine High School. At 6’2″, she looks to bring added depth and experience to roster following her stint at Scottsdale Community College. She is the second connection in the Lady Railsplitters’ program to Scottsdale Community College, as Yazzie played for LMU assistant, LaTasha Washington, during her stay. While at Scottsdale, Yazzie averaged ten points and seven rebounds per contest.

“Stevie is a super kid and very talented,” said Scottsdale Community College coach Bike Medder. “She has really good perimeter abilities for a post player. I am very happy for her and look for great things from her at Lincoln Memorial.”

Yazzie also had an extremely successful career at Navajo Pine High School. Her resume includes a selection to the New Mexico High All-District in 2009 along with making an appearance on the New Mexico vs. Arizona All-Star Team and the New Mexico North vs. South All-Star Team that same year.

Regarding Yazzie, coach Roger Hodge stated, “Stevie Yazzie has the size and versatility that we look for in a post. She also is a great fit from a personality standpoint with our current team. Stevie can shoot the three as well as play on the interior. We feel that she can have an immediate impact and we are excited to have her. Stevie played for a coach in Bike Medder that I have the utmost respect for, so I know she has been very prepared to help us be successful right away.”

Yazzie will be joining a roster that notched the first winning season for Lincoln Memorial University women’s basketball since the 2004-05 season. The anticipation continues to rise as the Lady Railsplitters are gearing up for the second year of the Roger Hodge era.
