Mariah Stacona (Warm Springs Tribe) Scores 20 Points as Northwest Eagles Drop Conference Contest to Corban University

SALEM, Ore. – The Corban Warriors broke open a close game in the third quarter to post a 78-56 Cascade Conference victory over the NU Eagles this afternoon in the C.E. Jeffers Sports Center. The game was moved to an earlier tip off time as freezing rain and snow was forecasted for the area in the late afternoon and evening.

Corban took an early 16-12 lead in the first quarter, but the Eagles came back strong in the second period to outscore the Warriors 23-22 and close the gap to 38-35 at halftime. Charmaine Bradford had 15 points in the half to lead the Eagles while Mariah Stacona (Warm Springs Tribe)dropped in 10 points.

The third quarter would be the turning point of the game as the Warriors would come out with a hot hand shooting 49 per cent for the half while the Eagles were as cold as the weather outside hitting just 22 per cent of their shots. Maddey Pflaumer’s jumper with 1:28 to go in the period would put Corban up by 16, 58-42. Emily Henderson‘s lay-up would make it a 58-44 game, but Lindsey Asplund would hit a single free throw with 25 seconds to go giving Corban a 59-44 lead at the end of the quarter.

NU’s shooting woes would continue in the fourth quarter as the Eagles would go 0-4 to open the period while Corban would stretch their lead to 19 points, 65-46, at the 6:22 mark. Northwest U would not be able to make up any ground the remainder of the quarter as Corban would post their third straight CCC victory.

Mariah Stacona led Northwest U (8-11, 3-6 CCC) with a game high 20 points going 6 for 12 from the field for 50 per cent. Charmaine Bradford was held to a single point in the second half finishing with 16 points. The Eagles were 19 of 68 from the floor for a 28 per cent shooting average.

Corban (9-7, 3-5 CCC) was led by Sadie Pilgeram who scored 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Maddey Pflaumer scored a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds as the Warriors held a huge 60-32 rebounding margin including 19 offensive rebounds. The Warriors shot 45 per cent for the game and were 71 per cent from the free throw line.
