Daranda Hinkey (Paiute-Shoshone) Scores 22 points to lead Southern Oregon University’s rout of Walla Walla

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon flirted with its own single-game scoring, assist and efficiency records Sunday afternoon in a 120-44 win over Walla Walla (Wash.), staying perfect at Mountain Avenue Gym and setting up a critical week ahead.

Freshman guard Daranda Hinkey (Paiute-Shoshone) starred with season-bests of 22 points, four assists and four rebounds, and Majerle Reeveswent 7-for-12 from 3-point territory with 21 points to lead seven Raiders in double figures. SOU broke the school 3-point makes record it set earlier this year by going 17-for-31, scored the third-most points in team history, put up the second-best field-goal percentage at 61.8 (47-of-76), and was one assist shy of tying that record with 36.

The Raiders upped their records to 15-1 overall and 8-0 in the Cascade Conference. Next Saturday they’ll host Eastern Oregon, which is also 8-0 in the CCC, and College of Idaho (6-2) will visit next Sunday.

Delaney Sparling joined Hinkey and Reeves off the bench with 17 points, draining three of SOU’s seven fourth-quarter triples and going 5-for-10 downtown overall. Tiani Bradford had 11 points, nine assists, five steals and four rebounds; Casey Williams went for 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists; Autumn Durand added 16 points and a career-high five blocks; and Toria Bradford finished with 10 points, six assists and five steals.

SOU had 25 steals as a team and forced 15 first-quarter turnovers en route to a 40-12 lead and its highest point total in a single period since women’s college basketball went to the four-quarter format last year.

Emily Downs had 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Wolves (2-12, 0-8). Sierra Briggs chipped in 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

The Raiders have won 18 consecutive CCC contests since their loss at Eastern Oregon on Jan. 16, 2016.
