Aaliyah Nye (Potawatomi) Led No. 24 Alabama with 25 Points in 115-53 Win over New Orleans in Season Opener

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Scoring the most points in single game since 1995, the No. 24/25 Alabama women’s basketball team soared past New Orleans, 115-53, inside Coleman Coliseum during the 2024-25 season opener.

The Crimson Tide’s Aaliyah Nye (25) and Sarah Ashlee Barker (23) combined for 48 of Alabama’s total 115 points, while Eris Lester scored 16 points in her first collegiate game and Zaay Green collected 12 points in her first game with UA. Christabel Ezumah led Alabama with nine boards with Barker (8) and Essence Cody (7) following close behind.

For the Privateers, Jayla Kimbrough posted 13 points on the night to lead UNO.

How it Happened

  • The Crimson Tide opened the game with an 11-2 run with Sarah Ashlee Barker posting eight points in the first quarter
  • Alabama led the game after the first quarter with New Orleans trailing by 12 points (25-13)
  • Scoring 28 points in the paint, the Tide accounted for 25 points scored off turnovers throughout the first half
  • Aaliyah Nye (17) and Barker (14) lead in first-half scoring, combining for 27 of Alabama’s 58 total points in the first half
  • Nye also increased her intensity, making a trio of three-point field goals in the second quarter to widen Alabama’s lead by 31 points going into the half
  • Scoring off a turnover, Chloe Spreen’s three-point jumper pushed Alabama to the triple digits in its season opener 
  • The Tide’s offense continued into the final quarter, posting 25 points compared to the Privateers’ 10, propelling Alabama to a 62-point lead (115-53)
