Alexis Desjarlait (Ojibwe) Post New Season High of 20 Points for Concordia-Chicago in Win over Edgewood

MADISON, WIS. – The Concordia University-Chicago women’s basketball team (4-3, 3-0 NACC) traveled to Edgewood College (1-5, 1-0 NACC) to take on the Eagles in their second road conference matchup of the season. The Cougars defeated the Eagles 73-60 to secure their third straight conference win.

Inside the Box

  • The Cougars had four players in double digits. 
  • Katherine Benes (Oconomowoc, Wis.) led the Cougars with 23 points as she shot 50% from the three-point line and 41% from the field.
  • Alexis Desjarlait (Red Lake, Minn.) posted a new season high with 20 points on the night. She also added eight rebounds and two assists.
  • Melia Perry (Plainfield, Ill.) scored 12 points on the night shooting 36% from the field and 57% from behind the arc. This is her second straight game scoring double figures.
  • Alisyn MacGregor (Loves Park, Ill.) led the team in rebounds with 17. She also added six points.

Katherine Benes once again got off to a fast start as she sank two three-pointers in the first 46 seconds of regulation. The Eagles immediately responded with a jumper to make the score 6-2. Edgewood ended up going on a 7-0 run before Alexis Desjarlait scored her first points of the night to once again give the Cougars the lead 8-7.

Jada Dixon (Gary, Ind.) started the second quarter off right with a nice move in the paint to extend the Cougar lead 21-11. Later on in the quarter, Jaylene Wade (Lansing, Ill.) made her veteran presence felt with a deep three-point attempt to get her first points of the night. The Cougars went into halftime leading the Eagles 39-22.

The Eagles opened the second half on a 4-0 run, but Benes acknowledged it with a three of her own with 8:06 to go in the third. Melia Perry concluded the quarter with her first three of the night to give the Cougars a 15 point advantage heading into the fourth.

The Cougars showed off their hot hands as Desjarlait got the steal on the defensive end in the early going of the quarter. She then passed it to Benes who sank a jumper in the paint to give the Cougars a 59-42 lead. The Eagles pulled within 10 with 76 seconds remaining in the contest, but Jaylene Wade ended the game on a high note sinking her second three-point shot of the night as the Cougars snatched their third straight NACC victory.
