CORVALLIS, Ore. – The No. 16 Utah Utes took a hit as the No. 25 Oregon State Beavers downed the Utes 91-66.
Utah trailed by double digits early in the first half and despite a strong fourth quarter couldn’t make the comeback. The Utes were led by Pili who put up 28 points. Utah is now 15-6 overall on the season and 5-4 in Pac-12 play.
GAME SUMMARY
Utah and Oregon State started the game matching each other point for point. The Beavers found some momentum and pushed out for a seven-point lead. Matyson Wilke hit a three pointer to bring the score within four points with just under two minutes left in the first quarter. Oregon State went on a 7-2 run to end the first quarter to take a 28-19 lead.
Utah started the second quarter on a three minute scoring drought. Pili ended the drought knocking down a three ball. Pili’s three sparked an 8-0 run for the Utes that cut the scoring deficit to single digits. The Beavers answered with a 10-0 run. Oregon State controlled the rest of the second quarter and pushed out for a 49-32 lead at the half.
Utah started the second half with a four minute drought that OSU capitalized on with a 7-0 run. The Beavers went on to outscore the Utes 22-10 in the third quarter to pull ahead for a 78-42 lead.
Oregon State maintained all the momentum and missed just one field goal of six attempts in the first four minutes of the final quarter. Utah then went on a 9-0 run and forced Oregon State into six consecutive missed field goals. Utah ended up out scoring OSU 25-13 in the fourth quarter but the damage had been done and Utah fell 91-66.
LEADERS
Utah had three Utes score in double figures and were led by Pili’s 28 points. Wilke came off the bench to drop 11 points including three made from beyond the arc. Dasia Young also put up 10 points for the Utes.
