(Los Angeles, CA) – According to the WNBA Transactions website updated June 1st, Angel Goodrich (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) has been claimed off of “waivers” by the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks. However, the latest transaction has yet to post if she has been officially signed by the Sparks.
Only days ago, in a press release by the Tulsa Shock, Angel was waived before she was to begin her 3rd year in the WNBA.
Goodrich played college basketball at Kansas and was drafted in the third round of the 2013 WNBA Draft. In her rookie season of 2013, Goodrich played in 31 games, averaged 4.4 points per game and three assists per game. Last season Goodrich played in 29 games.
What does Claimed Off of Waivers mean? Basically, when a player is released from their current team they are placed on the waiver wire (Typically this is about a two day period). During this time any team can make a claim to that player and after the short period the team with the highest waiver priority gets the player if multiple teams submitted to get them. If after this period no team submits a claim for the player they then becomes a free agent and any team is allowed to contact them at anytime to fill a void in their roster.

It is good that she got picked up by LA. They really need help at the guard spot.
