Aspen Wesley (Mississippi Choctaw) Named SEC Co-Pitcher Of The Week

Brian Ogden

STARKVILLE – After picking up two complete-game victories against ranked opponents last week, Mississippi State’s Aspen Wesley has been tabbed SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Wesley posted a 2-0 record this week, defeating No. 23/23 Louisiana at home and No. 8/7 Clemson in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She faced a team-high 55 batters in 13.0 innings pitched and allowed just 13 to reach base. Wesley allowed just one earned run while striking out 12 batters.

The fifth-year pitcher from Philadelphia, Mississippi, was responsible for two of State’s four straight victories over ranked opponents this week. It marked the first time State had won four straight against ranked teams since 2021.

Wesley has now posted nine career complete games. She struck out a season-high eight batters against No. 8 Clemson, coming one shy of her career high. Against No. 23 Louisiana, she turned an unassisted double play in the win.

Her season ERA ranks sixth in the SEC, and she’s one of eight pitchers in the league to allow just one earned run or fewer. This is Wesley’s first career SEC weekly award and the Bulldog’s first SEC Pitcher of the Week honor since 2022.
