Atlanta Dream Announces Full Preseason Schedule; Shoni Schimmel Returns for 2nd Season

ATLANTA, May 8, 2015 – The WNBA Atlanta Dream announced today the team’s full preseason schedule for the 2015 season. In addition to the team’s previously announced Atlanta Dream Classic on May 23 in Louisville, Ky., the Dream will play a road contest against the New York Liberty on May 27 and host a scrimmage against the Chinese National Women’s Olympic Basketball Team on May 31.

The Dream will open its preseason schedule when it hosts the Atlanta Dream Classic on Saturday, May 23 at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky. The Dream will play the Washington Mystics at 7 p.m. ET, following a contest between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun at 5 p.m. Tickets for the Atlanta Dream Classic can be purchased at the KFC Yum! The Dream’s scrimmage against the Chinese National Team, which is part of a series of competitions the Chinese team is playing against WNBA teams in the U.S. this spring, will take place on Sunday, May 31, at 3 p.m. ET at North Atlanta High School. Following the scrimmage, both teams will hold an autograph signing for fans in attendance.

“We are excited to host the Chinese National Team at North Atlanta High School,” said Dream President and General Manager Angela Taylor. “We encourage our fans to take advantage of this opportunity to watch our team while helping support the basketball programs at North Atlanta High School.”

“North Atlanta High School is very excited to host this important sporting event because it is more than just a basketball game for us,” said North Atlanta High School Principal Curtis W. Douglass. “Our Mandarin Chinese language program has been in existence for more than 20 years. This game supports our mission as an international baccalaureate world school to develop intercultural understanding among our student body and the community.”

Tickets for the scrimmage cost $20, with complimentary admission for Dream Elite members, and include a lower-level ticket to the Dream’s home opener on June 7 at 3 p.m. against the Connecticut Sun. The preseason game against the Liberty will be played on Wednesday, May 27, at 11 a.m. ET at Madison Square Garden in New York City. It will be a preview of the Dream’s season opener, as the two teams open the 2015 campaign in the same location on Friday, June 5.

The three-time Eastern Conference Champion Atlanta Dream opens its eighth season in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) on June 5 at New York, with the home opener slated for Sunday, June 7 at 3 p.m. ET vs. the Connecticut Sun. The Dream, which plays its home games at Philips Arena, has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past six seasons, winning conference titles in 2013, 2011 and 2010.
