ATLANTA – Belhaven University’s Shantashia John has been named the 2022-23 Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) Women’s Basketball Player of the Year as the conference released it’s regular season awards and all-sportsmanship team today. John led the CCS in scoring during the regular season and helped lead the Blazers to an 8-6 mark in CCS play.
John’s first year with the Blazers was one to remember. The electric point guard was named the CCS Player of the Week three times while earning Rookie of the Week honors eight times. She led the CCS in steals (2.4 SPG) and scoring (20 PPG) and ranks in the Top 2 in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and three-point percentage. John scored a season-high 38 points in her debut to lead Belhaven past rival Millsaps in the season opener.
