NEW ORLEANS – The Black Hills State University men’s cross country team has broken into the top-10 of the South Central Region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association rankings.
The Yellow Jackets are ranked No. 10 in the October 7 poll after a fourth place finish at the Fifth Annual Roadrunner Invitational hosted by Metro State University of Denver.
In the event, junior Alec Baldwin claimed second overall and was the top collegiate finisher in 25:24 while Kendall Murie (Chippewa/Cree) crossed the finish line 12th in 26:23.
Two-time defending national champion Adams State leads the rankings while Colorado Mines and Western State Colorado are second and third, respectively. Other schools from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference include Colorado Mesa (5th), MSU Denver (6th), University of Colorado Colorado Springs (7th) and Chadron State (9th).
This is the first time during the regular season that the Yellow Jackets men’s cross country team has been ranked in the top-10 of the USTFCCCA rankings.
Black Hills State will run its home course on Saturday, October 18, at the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
