Briana Clah (Navajo) leads all scorers with 19 points as Fort Lewis Skyhawks Earn Conference win over New Mexico Highlands

DURANGO, Colo. – December 3, 2016 – After suffering their first loss of the season Friday night to No. 12 Colorado State-Pueblo, the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team recorded a 79-48 win at home over New Mexico Highlands University Saturday night for their first conference win of the season.  FLC blocked nine Cowgirls shots, which are the fourth most in a game in program history.

The Skyhawks improve to 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  NMHU moves to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in league games.

FLC opened the first stanza with a 22-6 lead after making 7-of-17 field goals while holding the Cowgirls to only three field goals on 17 attempts.  The Skyhawks took a 35-15 lead at the half and finished the game outscoring NMHU 44-33 in the second half.

Briana Clah (Navajo Nation) led all scorers with 19 points.  She hit 8-of-9 free throws and dished out a game high six dimes while grabbing five rebounds.  Alyssa Yocky led both teams with eight rebounds and added 12 points, two blocks and three assists.

Ande Lampert was responsible for four of the Skyhawks nine blocks.  She added eight points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Kayla Herrera came off the bench to round out three Skyhawks in double digit scoring with 11 points.  Herrera tallied six rebounds, three assists and a steal.

The Skyhawks outscored NMHU in the paint (26-16), off of turnovers (28-12), and bench points (25-8).

FLC finished the game making 27-of-58 field goals for 46.6 percent and 23-of-26 free throws for 88.5 percent.  NMHU was held to 28.3 field goal shooting percentage (17-of-60) and 25 percent from long range (4-of-16).

Fort Lewis will travel to Colorado Mesa University on Dec. 9 and Western State Colorado University on Dec. 10.
