DURANGO, Colo. – December 19, 2016 – A 41-point second half explosion by the Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team broke a 24-24 tie at halftime and led to a 65-49 home win over Western New Mexico University Monday night in non-conference action.
The win is the Skyhawks fourth straight win as they improve to 9-2 on the season.
Four Skyhawks recorded double digit scoring. Kayla Herrera led all scorers with 16 points after making seven field goals and a free throw shot. She added seven rebounds, five steals and a blocked shot.
Alyssa Yocky sank 6-of-11 field goals for 12 points. She also pulled down a game high nine rebounds and added two assists.
Shelby Patterson tallied 11 points, four rebounds and four assists and Briana Clah (Navajo) chipped in 10 points, a team high five assists and two rebounds.
The Skyhawks sank 25-of-60 field goals for 41.7 percent on the night, and 11-of-16 free throws for 68.8 percent.
FLC held the Mustangs to 35.6 percent from the floor and only 10 percent from long range after WNMU missed 18-of-20 attempts.
The game featured eight lead changes and four ties. The Skyhawks largest lead of the night was 17 points with 2:37 left in regulation.
Fort Lewis will travel to Chadron State College and Regis University Dec. 30-31.
