(Lawrence, Kansas) – Haskell Indian Nations University transfer and walk-on player Bryan Strom was named the university’s American Indian College Fund Student of the Year.
Strom, Jr., an enrolled member of the Quinault Nations, was born in Yakima, Washington where he has roots in the Yakama Nation tribe as well. He grew up on the Yakama Nation reservation where he graduated from the Yakama Nation Tribal School in June of 2020. He carried a 3.7 GPA through high school while obtaining college credit and being a leading member of the boy’s basketball team where he also earned numerous awards and honors. He helped lead the basketball to the state tournament 5 years in a row, beginning with his 8th grade season, eventually finishing state runner-up during his final seasons.
After highs school, Strom continued his education and basketball career at Yakima Valley Community College. In his first quarter at YVCC, he made the Dean’s list then transferred to Haskell where he achieved the President’s list in his first semester. He will use the AICF funds to help further his academic career with hopes to become a physician.
