Bryce Petty (Chickasaw Nation) Will Be Starter For Rest Of Season for New York Jets

NEW YORK – Jets coach Todd Bowles says he decided about two to three weeks ago to play Bryce Petty (Chickasaw Nation) at quarterback for New York’s final four games to get an extended look at the second-year player from Baylor.

Bowles announced after the Jets’ 41-10 loss to the Colts on Monday night that Petty would start the rest of the season, sending former Texans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to the sideline.

“We’re not in contention. We want to get him some experience. So we’re going to play him a little more,” Bowles said of Petty on a conference call Tuesday afternoon. “It’s trying to win, and it’s trying to see what I have at quarterback with Bryce.”

Bowles said Tuesday that Fitzpatrick will serve as Petty’s backup for at least the next few weeks. Rookie Christian Hackenberg, a second-round pick, likely will not see any game action this season, barring an injury to Petty.
