South Dakota State maintained its perfect record in Summit League play, turning back North Dakota 85-74 Saturday night to complete a two-game sweep of the Fighting Hawks.
The Jackrabbits (10-3, 4-0 Summit League) won their 32nd consecutive conference game in Frost Arena and extended their home court winning streak to 29, the third-longest active streak in Division I men’s basketball.
“This was the third time playing North Dakota and that really made it challenging,” said head coach Eric Henderson. “I thought our guys did a really good job of being engaged. It wasn’t easy, but they battled their tails off and I just love our team’s chemistry.”
Reigning Summit League Player of the Year Douglas Wilson ignited the SDSU offensive attack with a game-high 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting, 15 of which came in the latter stanza.
Baylor Scheierman assembled his eighth double-double, posting 14 points and 11 rebounds alongside five assists. Alex Arians chipped in 16 points and David Wingett (Winnebago) added 12 points on four 3-pointers.
SDSU led virtually the entire first half, but it was tight one, with the Jacks taking a 33-28 lead into the break. Scheierman scored the first five points of the second half, then fed Matt Dentlinger on consecutive possessions for a pair of dunks. It was the start of 19-6 run that essentially put the game away.
The Jacks shot 53 percent overall, including a torrid 65 percent in the second half, and made 8-of-16 from deep.
