Dylan Fulton (Kaigani Haida) signs to California State University Maritime women’s basketball team

The Cal Maritime Women’s Basketball team, and first-year head coach Denise Bennett, continue to stay busy this offseason with the newest addition being Dylan Fulton (Kaigani Haida) out of Oceana High School in Pacifica, Calif.

“I’m really looking forward to getting to creating new bonds with the girls and the team,” said the incoming freshman Fulton. “Especially competing at the college level.”

Fulton comes from Oceana High School in Pacifica, just south of Daily City and just under an hour away from the campus here at Cal Maritime.  When it came to making a final decision, Fulton came to the conclusion that having family and friends close to her while playing collegiately was ultimately the deciding factor.

“I chose Cal Maritime because I wanted to be close to my family and my friends so they have the opportunity to watch me play,” the Pacifica native said. “I really liked the athletic program as well and Coach Bennett with what she had to bring. I also really like the community as a whole and how they treat their students.”

Fulton joins a young and determined Women’s Basketball team that currently has one upperclassman on the roster in Elizabeth Martinez. She believes she could be an immediate asset being able to expand the floor shooting from beyond the arc coupled with ball-handling attributes and provide support down low with fellow forward Alicia Porter.

“I can ball handle and I can shoot the three,” Fulton added. “I also love playing down low, inside.”

Asked what her plans are post-graduation, work ethic seems to be effortless for the Oceana High School soon to be alumni as she has high expectations and aspirations for herself eventually applying her eventual International Business & Logistics degree to owning her own real estate business one day where she sells mansions.

Said the incoming freshman. “I really want to have my own business, a real estate business where I sell mansions.”

The Women’s Basketball program is slated to start the 2021 season back in their normal seasonal slot of late October after postponing the 2020-21 season due to COVID-19.
