East Central Community College freshman first baseman Mahalia Gibson (Choctaw) continues to add to her accolades following the 2015 season, today being named National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Softball First Team All-American.
Gibson of Hattiesburg was one of 13 players named to the First Team.
A product of Oak Grove High School, Gibson batted .406 with 80 hits, including 24 doubles and 52 RBIs, all team bests. She tied for the team lead in home runs with 11 and had a .971 fielding average. She also was named to the NJCAA Division II Softball National Championship All-Tournament Team, NJCAA Region 23 All-Region Team, and Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges First Team All-State.
She is East Central Community College’s first softball All-American since 2011.
The ECCC softball team finished the season with a 48-14 record and a second place finish in the 2015 NJCAA Division II Softball National Championship tournament.
