CALDWELL, Idaho – Eastern Oregon couldn’t handle the Crusaders of Madonna University Friday afternoon. Madonna took an 81-68 win dropping the Mounties to 2-3 this season prior to conference play. With the win Madonna moves to 6-2.
The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead from the get-go with an 8-0 run. Eastern responded and eventually took a small lead midway through the first half before Madonna regained control. A push early in the second half saw the lead go in the Mounties’ favor again, but they couldn’t hold on as Madonna retook the lead and didn’t give it up the rest of the way.
While Eastern paced the Crusaders with 30 points from beyond the arc on 41.7% shooting, it was Madonna’s strong inside game that made the difference. The Crusaders put up 44 points in the paint to the Mounties’ 26 and they also outrebounded Eastern 49-36.
