Emoni Bush (Wei Wai Kum First Nation) Led Washington with 13 Kills in Huskies Sweep of Northwestern

SEATTLE – Washington Volleyball matched its season-high in aces today with 13 in just three sets, thrilling the crowd of 4,358 in Alaska Airlines Arena with a 25-15, 25-23, 25-14 sweep over Northwestern. Emoni Bush and Julia Hunt matched each other ace for ace, both finishing with five apiece, as the Huskies improved to 9-7 in Big Ten play and 19-7 on the season.

Washington had 13 aces just three matches earlier in its 3-1 win at No. 14 Minnesota and the Huskies were on target again tonight, mixing low, hard float serves that carried farther than expected or dropped off the table in front of the Northwestern (5-19, 3-13 Big Ten) passers.

The Huskies hit .230 and held Northwestern to just .040 on offense. The Dawgs had eight blocks to four for NU, and a 49-42 advantage in digs.

“I was proud of how the girls came out and played aggressively from the very start to the finish,” said Head Coach Leslie Gabriel. “We served well tonight, Madi, Julia and Emoni served really tough, and Lauren created a lot of stress with her serving. Then defensively, how exciting was it to see Molly dig some line shots and some quicks? Something she’s been working on the last month, to help us keep the ball flying, and she was able to do that today.”
