COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Recognized for his efforts in helping the Skyhawks defensive lock down a pair of wins over Western New Mexico and Northern New Mexico last weekend, Fort Lewis’ Stewart Erhart has been named the Week Two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
Last weekend, the Skyhawks climbed to 3-3 on the season with a 71-62 win over Western New Mexico (0-4) on Friday followed by a 78-60 victory over Northern New Mexico (1-9) on Saturday.
Through both games, Fort Lewis forced 51 turnovers, which amounted to 70 combined points for the Skyhawks. In addition, FLC made 35 steals, 19 of which came against the Eagles as the fourth-most in a game in program history.
Erhart, a redshirt freshman product from Fairbanks, Alaska, and the former two-time Alaska Boys’ Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year finished just shy of a double-double against the Mustangs with seven points and nine rebounds, including a team-high six offensive rebounds. Erhart also handed out three assists and made a game-high four steals. Later, against the Eagles, Erhart scored six more points while making one rebound, three assists, and nabbed another three steals.
The weekly honor marks the first of Erhart’s career and the third defensive honor for a Skyhawk over the past two seasons.
