Gabby Barker (Shoshone/Paiute) recorded a second place overall finish at the 2016 Lady Puerto Rico Challenge

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico — The No. 25 Texas Tech Lady Raider golf team carded a three round 878 (14-over) to finish in third place at the 2016 Lady Puerto Rico Challenge played at the Rio Mar CC River Course, in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.

Tuesday’s third place finish marked the fourth top-five finish for the Lady Raiders and third straight top-three finish in the 2015-16 season. The Lady Raiders’ combined score of 878 also marked the third lowest team score of the season.

Texas Tech finished 11 strokes behind tournament champion and fifth-ranked Georgia, and eight strokes behind No. 8 Arkansas which finished with an 870 (6-over) total score. The Lady Raiders did finish six strokes ahead of Big 12 foe and 18th-ranked Iowa State, and eight shots ahead of No. 9 Kent State which rounded out the top-5.

“I am really proud of our team,” said Texas Tech head coach JoJo Robertson. “We gave up a few shots yesterday but other than that we were right there for low rounds in two of the three rounds. Each player contributed this week and it was an all-around team effort.”

Sophomore Gabby Barker (Shoshone/Paiute), who is currently ranked as the No. 6 player nationally by Golfweek, recorded a second place finish following a three day score of 209 (7-under). Barker finished one stroke behind Arkansas’ Maria Fassi, who claimed the event’s individual title.

Senior Sarah Brown finished in eighth place following a third round 71 (1-under) for a three day total of 219 (3-over) at the event.

Freshman Mami Yamamoto also had a strong finish in Puerto Rico, carding a three round score of 226 (10-over) to finish tied for 34th.
