NAMPA- Gabrielle Barker (Shoshone/Paiute) stood on the first tee on Saturday with a thirteen shot lead above the field in the Idaho Women’s Amateur Championship. Barker, the 57th ranked amateur golfer in the world, paired her first round 70 with a second round course record 65 to have an ideal position in the final round.
Following Barker, Tara Finigan began the day at four-over and stayed steady through her final round. Finigan shot even in the final round, to finish the championship at four-over. Kinsley Bonfilio tried to climb up the leaderboard shooting a third round one-under. Hannah Drake finished shot her low round of the weekend with a one over-par 73.
But, no competitor could catch up to Barker. Barker cruised in the final round, carding a three-under 69. Barker’s round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-four fifteenth. Barker’s rounds of 70-65-69 finished her at twelve-under, the lowest score in tournament history. Barker winning the 83rd Women’s Amateur Championship is her third. Barker took the title previously in 2013 and 2014. Barker has aspirations to play professional in the near future.
