Grace White (Ojibwe/Sioux) Receives NCAA Waiver, Immediately Eligible for Valpo

The Valpo women’s basketball program received word from the NCAA Friday afternoon that junior Grace White (Ojibwe/Sioux) has been granted a legislative relief waiver deeming her immediately eligible to play for Valpo in the 2019-20 season.

White joined Valpo this past offseason following two seasons at Denver. She appeared in 31 games for the Pioneers last season, playing 16.4 minutes/game while averaging 4.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. White scored a career-best 25 points in a win over Lamar. As a freshman, White played in 29 games and made five starts, averaging 4.6 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.

White’s immediate eligibility means she will get to share the court this year once again with teammate Carie Weinman, as the duo played together at Denver in 2017-18. White will also have a homecoming of sorts in the second weekend of action, as the Ojibwe tribe member is expected to have the support of hundreds of fellow tribe members when Valpo visits North Dakota State on Nov. 15 and North Dakota on Nov. 17.
