Green Bay senior guard Sandy Cohen III (Oneida Tribe) garners Horizon All-League First Team honors

AMINDIANAPOLIS (GreenBayPhoenix.com) — After leading his team in every major statistical category and ranking third in the Horizon League in scoring, Green Bay senior guard Sandy Cohen III (Oneida Tribe) garnered Horizon All-League First Team honors, the league announced on Tuesday. Cohen was the lone representative for the No. 4 seed Phoenix among all award winners, and will lead his team into the Motor City Madness Quarterfinals tonight against No. 5 seed UIC at the Resch Center.

Cohen averaged 18.2 PPG in Horizon League play, 3rd in the league behind fellow First Team members Antoine Davis and Player of the Year Drew McDonald, and ended the regular season by scoring 20 or more points in four out of five games. The Seymour native led his team in scoring, rebounding (6.7 RPG), assists (4.3 APG), steals (1.7 SPG) and blocks (0.9 BPG), while also ranking inside the Top 10 of the Horizon League in each of those categories.

Living up to the Preseason First Team All-League billing he received, Cohen reached double figures in 27 of 31 games played, including 10 games with 20 or more points. Cohen’s signature moment came on a buzzer-beating game winner at home against Cleveland State, which gave the athletic guard 30 points. He has appeared in all 31 games this year, starting in 30 of them and averaging over 34 minutes per game in HL play. He registered 24 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in an impressive home over Detroit Mercy, and poured in 28 points in the HL-opener at Milwaukee.
