Hailey Oskey (Oneida) Led US-Green Bay with 14 points in Win over Oklahoma State

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Green Bay women’s basketball team opened the South Point Thanksigiving Shootout on Friday with a win over Power Five opponent Oklahoma State. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz finished strong at the hoop with 39 seconds left in the fourth quarter to put Green Bay ahead 57-52, and the Phoenix secured the 57-54 win over the Cowgirls at South Point Arena.

The Phoenix (3-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Hailey Oskey (Oneida Nation), who had 14 points. Sydney Levy added a season-high 11 points from the bench and Maddy Schreiber helped out with 10 points off the bench.

The Green Bay defense was a problem in Friday’s game, forcing 17 Oklahoma State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Bailey Butler’s three steals led the way individually for the Phoenix.

After jumping out to a 9-7 advantage, Green Bay went on a 9-0 run with 1:50 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Levy, to increase its lead to 18-7. The Phoenix then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with an 18-8 advantage. Green Bay got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 11 of its 18 total points.

Green Bay kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 9-0 run starting at the 2:34 mark in the second period, highlighted by another three from Levy, to increase its lead to 33-17, a score that would hold until halftime. Green Bay was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 15 points.

After intermission, Green Bay held on to its advantage and owned a 41-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Green Bay played well near the basket, scoring six of its eight points in the paint.

The Cowgirls opened the fourth quarter with a 10-3 run to cut the Green Bay lead to 44-42, but the Phoenix kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 53-45 with 2:30 to go in the contest. The Cowgirls narrowed the margin again before the game was over, but the Phoenix still held on for the 57-54 win. Green Bay took advantage of five Oklahoma State turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
