Hannah Tecumseh (Navajo/PBPN) Adds Seven Kills for Ferris State in Win over Laker Superior State

Big Rapids, Mich. – The Ferris State University women’s volleyball squad, which is ranked 17th in the country, rolled to a 3-0 home win over visiting Lake Superior State on Monday (Oct. 23) in a mid-day tilt at Bulldog Arena.

FSU claimed the victory by sweeping the three sets 25-19, 25-18 and 25-21, moving to 19-4 on the year along with a first-place 12-0 in conference action.

The match, which began at noon, was FSU’s third home win in the past four days of competition.

Ferris State had a balanced effort in the triumph with 13 players seeing action. Junior Claire Nowicki led the charge with a team-high nine kills while Emma Bleecher added seven kills along with Hannah Tecumseh.

Overall, the Bulldogs hit an impressive .318 for the afternoon, totaling 37 kills and only nine attack errors on 88 attempts. The Bulldogs also garnered 35 digs and came up with 10 total blocks and five service aces.

Junior setter Kaylee Maat finished with 25 assists for FSU to go with a squad-best 13 digs in the win. Middle hitter Syann Fairfield tallied two solo blocks and four assists while Nowicki had three assists at the net. Leah Bylut garnered two service aces and added six digs.

Lake Superior State, which fell to 6-17 overall and 3-9 in the GLIAC, was led by Mariana Velasque and Morgan Deming with nine kills apiece. Emily Kalinowski had 31 assists. LSSU was limited to a .132 attack figure and finished with 37 digs, foru aces and a block along with 10 service errors.
