Haskell Indian Nations University Men’s Basketball Upset 5th Ranked OCU Saturday 67-57 at Tony Coffin Sports Complex

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Haskell Indian Nations University men’s basketball team upset the No. 5 ranked Oklahoma City University 67-57  at Tony Coffin Sports Complex  Saturday afternoon. It was the first loss of the season for the OCU Stars.

Oklahoma City, ranked fifth in NAIA Division I, dropped to 10-1 on the season while Haskell moved to 2-13. The Stars shot just 32.2 percent from the floor and were outrebounded 49-31.

Haskell was led by senior Tsalidi Sequoyah (Cherokee, NC) who had game-highs 22 points and 8 rebounds. Freshman Bryon Elledge (El Reno, OK) had a career high of 21 points as well for Haskell. The Indians shot 39.2 percent from the field and shot a 27.3 percent from behind the arc.

“Give Haskell all of the credit,” OCU Stars head coach Vinay Patel said. “They outplayed us for 40 minutes. I’m not sure if we beat them to a loose ball the entire game. Our guys did not match their intensity from the tip and the glaring thing that sticks out is the rebound statistics.”

Up next for Haskell is a road exhibition game with Missouri Western State (NCAA D2) in St. Joseph’s, Missouri on December 19th at 7:00 PM. The Indians will take a short holiday break after that game before returning to play a home game on December 30th at Tony Coffin Sports Complex. Tip off for that game will be at 7:00 PM as well.
