(Lawrence, KS) – After nearly a year of searching for an athletic director at Haskell Indian Nations University the school officially announced Todd Davis as the next person who will lead the helm at the 4 year NAIA college.
Mr. Davis has spent the last seven years as Athletic Director Gordon State College in Barnesville, Georgia. Originally, from Oklahoma, Davis has more than 25 years’ experience as an athletic administrator. He began his career at the University of Oklahoma Athletic Department in 1985 and he is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Tribe.
Davis has been an Athletic Director for 19 of those 25 years and has a knack of building highly competitive sports programs. At Gordon State College, he oversaw eight sports and led the Highlanders to their best year in school history in 2011-12. Three teams – men’s basketball, softball, baseball – all qualified for their respective national championship. His accomplishments alone at GSC include 17 Academic All Americans, 5 NJCAA Academic Team of the Year qualifiers, 52 All-Region selections, and 2 NJCAA All-Americans.
He has overseen three national championships, one NJCAA runner-up title, three national top five finishes, six College World Series baseball appearances, 27 NJCAA All Americans, and 15 region titles. And in his second year as Athletic Director at Darton State College (GA), the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association named the institution the top two-year athletic program in the state for 2005-06.
His goal for any athletic program he directs is to make it competitive on the national level and make sure all student-athletes understand the importance of obtaining an education. His strongest evidence is the 64 Academic All Americans he has witnessed during his career. For his part, Davis is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in sports administration.
Davis comes from a very athletic family as his older brother Steve was the starting quarterback at the University of Oklahoma from 1973-75. The Sooners won two national championships with him at the helm.
Davis is married to his wife Susie of 25 years and they have three children, Drew (19), Brooks (17), and Macy (14).
Mr. Davis plans to be on the HINU campus on July 27.
