It’s a 2nd Place MCAC Finish for the Haskell Women’s Track & Field Team
In the full return of track and field to the Haskell campus, the women’s team finished Friday’s conference championships in second place. Leading the day off for the Indians was Leslie Waseta, a freshman thrower from Zuni, NM.
Waseta took home the inaugural MCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship title for the women’s javelin with a toss of 33.40 meters. The finish earned Waseta a First Team All-Conference. Waseta also earned a third place finish in the discus with a throw of 33.00 meters.
Fellow freshman standout, Talisa Budder (Kenwood, OK) earned three second place finishes. Budder finished the 1500 meter run in 5:18.41, and the 3000 meter run in 11:36.06. Budder was also a member of the 4 X 400 meter relay team that finished in the mile relay in a time of 4:31.92.
Senior Nataska Rouse (Skiatook, OK) also a member of the 4 X 400, competed in the 100, 200, 400, and 4 X 100 meter relay. Rouse earned a top five spot in the 100 and 200, and a second place in the 400 in a time of 1:05.87. Senior Christina Belone (Yah-ta-hey, NM) competed in 200, 800, 4 X 100, and 4 X 400 meter relay. Belone placed second in the 800 meters in a time of 2:38.99. Rounding out the 4 X 400 team was Samantha Taylor, a sophomore from Zuni, NM (4:31.92).
Budder, Rouse, Belone, and Taylor for their second place finishes each earned a Second Team All-Conference.

Men’s Track & Field Team Earn a Third Place Conference Finish
Thomas Zunie, a junior from Zuni, NM takes first in the Men’s 5000 meter run in a time of 17:21.41. Zunie’s finish in the 5000 garnered him a First Team All-Conference. Zunie also earned a third place in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:33.77.
Sophomore Matt Woody (Ramah, NM) finished the 800 meter run in a time of 2:06.78 for a second place finish. Woody’s javelin toss landed at the 44.10 meter mark, earning another second place finish. The 800 meter run and javelin finish for Woody secured him two Second Team All-Conference Awards.
Other top finishers for the Indians include senior Kyle McHenry (Reno, NV), with a fourth place finish in the 200 meter run (23.47). Freshman Chad Upshaw (Shiprock, NM) finished fourth in the 1500 meter run (4:35.20), as well as the 5000 meter run (19:07.87). Ian Stand, a sophomore from Bay Point, CA with a toss of 11.73 meters in the men’s shot put, and a fifth place finish. Stand’s discus toss also placed him fifth of thirteen throwers with a distance of 35.30 meters.
