(Joplin, MO) – Bacone College’s Jackson Thomas (Navajo) ran lights out against a star studded field, to finish 2nd just behind one of the NCAA Division 2’s top ranked individual runners, a Kenyan from MSSU. Both were under the Southern Stampede course record, and within 3 seconds of each other. Spectators cheered on the two as they pulled away at the 2k mark of the 8k race and distanced the Class A field by an astonishing 35 seconds.
Jackson’s time is the fastest by a Native American college runner in the 8k that has been posted in the past several years, 24.18. This is just his first 8k race of the season.
After the race, Jackson said, “How’d the team finish up?? We need to get everyone to the that next step!”
