Javelin Thrower Cody Canard (Mvskoke Creek) will compete in the United States Olympic Trials this week in Eugene, Oregon

Weber State javelin thrower Cody Canard  will compete in the United States Olympic Trials this week in Eugene, Oregon, hoping to earn a spot on the US Olympic team.

He is one of two men’s throwers in Weber State history to qualify for the US Olympic Trials.

The Trials will be held June 21-30 in Eugene, Oregon. The quarterfinals of the javelin will be on Friday, June 21 at 3:30 Pacific time (4:30 MT). The top 12 will advance to the finals, which will be on Sunday, June 23 at 6:40 p.m. Pacific time (7:40 MT). The top three finishers will earn a spot with Team USA at the Summer Olympics in Paris.

Canard shattered the Weber State and Big Sky record in the event with a mark of 256-02 which broke the school record by nearly 30 feet and broke the conference record by 12 feet. That is the mark that qualified him for the Olympic Trials.

“Words can’t express this for more. It’s a dream come true,” Canard said. “It’s everything I’ve ever worked for. I came into the season to get to the trials while still in college and I’m so excited. I’ve tried to have fun this year and we had a lot of highs and lows but I’m so proud to be able to represent the school. It will be an awesome experience.”

Canard was third at the Big Sky Championships this year with a mark of 234-08 to earn all-conference honors.
