Josie Hill (Sisseston/Wahpeton) Scores 10 Points and Pulls 7 Rebounds as Chicago State Beats Olivet College 108-50

CHICAGO, IL – The Chicago State women’s basketball team snapped a 28-game losing streak with a 108-50 win over the Olivet Comets Tuesday night at the Jones Convocation Center. The victory was the first for head coach Andrea Williams at CSU and first for the Cougars since February 5, 2022 at home against Tarleton State by 10 points, 58-48.

Six Cougars scored in double figures led by Jacia Cunningham with a game-high 23 points while Janiah Newell tallied 22, Ana Haklicka posted 12 and Josie Hill added 10 Points along with 7 rebounds.

First Quarter – Chicago State 33, Olivet 8

  • The Cougars came out hot as they rampaged with a 9-0 run to start the quarter as Newell and Haklicka drained buckets to gain an early lead
  • It wasn’t until after three minutes that the Comets finally opened up their scoring with a deuce at 2-9
  • Nonetheless the Cougars kept on hot as they outscored the Comets 24-6 with Taylor Norris, Tae-for Willard, Newell and Haklicka all scoring to finish the quarter with a huge lead at 33-8

Second Quarter – Chicago State 62, Olivet 21

  • The Comets opened up with a deuce to reach double digits at 10-33
  • Both teams then scored back-and-forth as the Cougars outscored the Comets 7-6 to maintain their lead at 40-16
  • However, Chicago State then went on a 16-0 run that feature buckets from Newell, Cunningham, Laura Segues, and Josie Hill to go up 56-16
  • The Comets managed to only score 5 more points as the Cougars cruised to victory at the half with a score of 62-21

Third Quarter – Chicago State 78, Olivet 33

  • The Cougars opened up with a 4-0 run with deuces from Newell and Norris
  • The Comets answered right back with a 4-0 run of their own, yet still down 25-66
  • Chicago State then managed to outscore the Comets 12-8 as they remained comfortably in the lead heading into the fourth and final quarter with a score of 78-33

Fourth Quarter – Chicago State 108-50

  • Chicago State opened up the quarter with an 11-3 run with deuces from Myers, Newell, and Cunningham, along with a trey from Myers as well
  • The Cougars continued their rampage as they did all throughout the game with a very comfortable win at 108-50
