MANHATTAN, Kansas – After collecting her second shutout, K-State freshman goalkeeper Peyton Pearson (Osage Nation) was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week on Tuesday in an announcement by the league office.
Pearson, making her second start in K-State’s last three matches, pocketed her second career shutout with five saves while facing 14 total Kansas shots on Saturday, March 13, during K-State’s 0-0 draw.
A product of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Pearson has registered 200 minutes of scoreless soccer between the pipes for K-State to begin her career. She is the second K-State goalkeeper to record two shutouts in her first two starts for the Wildcats, joining Miranda Larkin in the 2016 season when she held SIUE and Oakland scoreless.
With her five saves on Saturday against the Jayhawks, Pearson has 14 saves on the season.
With her performance against the Jayhawks, Pearson was also named to the March 16 TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week.
In November, Pearson received Big 12 Goalkeeper and Freshman of the Week following her first career win and shutout against Texas Tech in K-State’s Big 12 finale. She was the first K-State netminder to earn Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
For its next competition, K-State will play Kansas City NWSL in a closed friendly on Saturday, March 20, at Swope Soccer Village in Overland Park.
