Claremore, Okla. – The Missouri Southern women’s basketball program closed out the week with a 72-53 win over Rogers State today inside the Claremore Expo Center.
Leading the way for the Lions (16-4, 8-4 MIAA) was Kryslyn Jones with 19 points and five rebounds. Lacy Stokes had 16 points, eight assists and three rebounds. Layne Skiles had 14 points and eight rebounds. Cameron Call led the bench with six points while Hailey Grant had three rebounds.
Rogers State (4-15, 2-11 MIAA) was led by Chloe Martin with 11 points, Briana Baker-Bruce and Bailey Kliewer both scored nine points. Trinity Jackson had a team-high seven rebounds while Fredrionna Adams had six assists to lead the team.
As a team the Lions held the advantage over the Hillcats in three pointers made 12-5, three point percentage 36.4-33.3, free throws made 8-6, rebounds 32-22, offensive rebounds 10-6, defensive rebounds 22-16, assists 20-15, steals 7-5, blocks 3-2, fast break points 11-3, points off turnovers 23-6 and second chance points 13-7.
In the first quarter Southern scored the first five points of the game and got out to a 9-5 lead with 7:20 left thanks to a pair of Lacy Stokes free throws. Rogers State would close the first quarter with a 9-3 run to claim a slim 16-15 lead after the first quarter.
To begin the second quarter the Lions utilized an 11-2 run to open up a 27-19 lead with 6:32 left in the quarter thanks to a Kaitlin Hunncitt three with Lacy picking up her third assist of the half. The Hillcats response was a 7-2 run to trim it to three but an 8-2 run to end the half saw the Lions ahead 37-28.
For the half the Lions shot 44.8 percent from the field and 43.8 percent from three while scoring 15 points off turnovers and having a 7-2 advantage on points from fast breaks.
In the third quarter Southern and Rogers State traded baskets in the first few minutes before a 12-6 run by the Lions made it 49-36 with 4:01 left thanks to a three by Lacy with Hunnicutt picking up her sixth assist of the game.
Southern held onto a 52-39 lead heading into the fourth quarter and following a quick 5-2 run capped off by a Madi Stokes jumper with Lacy Stokes picking up her sixth assist of the night making it 57-41 for the largest lead of the game so far. A 15-6 run by the Lions made it a 21 point game at 72-51 following back-to-back three’s by Cameron Call.
