San Angelo, Texas – The Missouri Southern Women’s Basketball team competed in the final game of the Rambelle Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, November 25. Despite the Lions dropping the first game of the Classic to Angelo State, 80-61, Missouri Southern all-around dominated the Mustangs of Midwestern State to win, 90-49. The Lions advance to 3-2 (0-0 MIAA) on the season.
The Lions came out firing in the first, starting the game on a 12-0 run and not allowing the Mustangs to score in the first 4:30 of the game. The Lions continued to put the pressure on the Mustangs on both ends, finishing the quarter with a 19-7 lead. Three Lions finished the first with five points: Kryslyn Jones, Mia Topping, and Brandi Hudson.
The second quarter did not slow down the Lions, as they continued to punish the Mustangs on both ends of the floor and outscore them 29-12 in the quarter. Kryslyn Jones was a key factor in the second quarter, scoring 12 points (5-7 FG) and helping the Lions take a commanding 48-19 lead at the half.
The Mustangs competed well with the Lions in the third quarter, bringing a lot of back-and-forth action. A 16-16 third quarter kept the Lions with a 29 point, 64-35, lead at the end of 30 minutes of play.
The Lions returned to their dominating ways in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Mustangs 26-14. An all-around outstanding performance gave the Lions a 90-49 victory at the end of regulation.
Three Lions finished in double-digits on the day. Kryslyn Jones led the Lions with 23 points (9-16 FG), five rebounds and two assists. Ryan Franklin finished with 16 points (8-14 FG), nine rebounds and two steals. Brandi Hudson tallied her first double-double of the season, scoring 13 points (5-7 FG) and 10 rebounds.
