SEARCY, Ark. (April 21, 2017) – Oklahoma Christian made it a point to focus on a good performance in the 10,000 meters at the Great American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships and Kyle Broaddrick (Cherokee Nation) turned in the best result possible.
The senior from Broken Arrow outdueled Lucas Goodspeed of Harding (Ark.) down the stretch to take the GAC title on Friday at Ted Lloyd Track, giving the Eagles their first event title of the meet and earning Broaddrick All-GAC first-team honors for the second straight year. He was a first-team selection in the 1,500 meters in 2016.
Broaddrick, who had never run the 10,000 meters in collegiate track, posted a time of 31:45.64, with Goodspeed just .56 of a second back. The 10 team points secured by Broaddrick were the lions’ share of those scored by OC on Friday, a day on which the Eagles had representatives in only three events.
OC was third in the team race with 11 points. Host Harding finished the day with 97 points, while Southern Arkansas had 51.
