ARLINGTON, Texas – Four players scored in double figures as the UTA women’s basketball team forced 23 turnovers and held Coastal Carolina to just 32.1 percent (18-of-56) shooting on the day, en route to a huge 79-53 win on Saturday afternoon at College Park Center.
With the win, UTA improves to 11-4 overall (3-1 SBC), while Coastal Carolina falls to 8-7 on the season and 0-4 in conference play.
Claire Chastain finished with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 from long distance. She also pulled down five boards in 18 minutes off the bench. Cierra Johnson filled the stat sheet, registering 12 points, seven steals, six rebounds and five assists in just 24 minutes. C. Johnson, who now has 286 career steals, moved into the top spot on UTA’s career steals list and now sits alone in seventh place on the Sun Belt career steals list. Lauren Billie (Seminole/Creek) chipped in with 11 points and three dimes, while Daiane Machado added 10 points off the bench.
Trailing by five points (26-21) with 9:02 left in the second quarter, the Lady Mavs used a 19-3 run to close out the first half and take an 11-point lead (40-29) into the locker room at the intermission. UTA continued their solid play in the second half, increasing their lead to as many as 31 points before securing their third conference win of the season.
