STILLWATER, Okla — Oklahoma State’s women’s basketball team started the Jacie Hoyt era on Tuesday evening with an impressive 91-41 victory over Northeastern (Okla.) State in front of 1,547 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
With the win, OSU ran its winning streak in exhibition contests to 26 in a row.
NSU jumped out to an early lead before the Cowgirls answered with a 6-0 run to move in front, 10-8, at the halfway point of the first quarter. Fifth-year standout Naomie Alnatas found junior Lexy Keys (Cherokee) on the wing, who buried a trey to move OSU in front heading into the first media timeout.
The Cowgirls extended the run with four consecutive points after the break to grow the lead to six over the RiverHawks. Overall, OSU closed the quarter on an 20-4 run to grab a 24-12 lead.
In the second, OSU got back-to-back treys from Alnatas to fuel an 8-1 run and force an NSU timeout at the 5:55 mark with the Cowgirls in front 32-13. A board and bucket from fifth year Kassidy De Lapp extended the run to 12-0 with four minutes to go in the half.
The Cowgirls outscored the RiverHawks 21-1 in the second frame to take a 45-13 lead into the halftime locker room. OSU shot 50 percent (16 of 32) in the half and assisted on 12 of those baskets.
Alnatas led all scorers with 11 points in the half, while De Lapp added 10.
OSU continued the onslaught out of the locker room with an 11-0 run. The Cowgirls would lead 68-26 heading into the final 10 minutes.
For the contest, OSU finished with six scorers in double figures as De Lapp led the way with 16. Keys finished with 15, while Alnatas added 14, fifth year Terryn Milton had 13, junior Taylen Collins 12 and fifth year Claire Chastain rounded out the group with 10.
