TYLER, Texas – North Texas quarterback Mason Fine (Cherokee) has been named The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award National Player of the Week for the tenth week of the college football season.
Fine completed 24 of 39 pass attempts for 332 yards and seven touchdowns – one off the program’s all-time high of eight in a game – in a 52-26 win over UTEP and the senior further etched his name in UNT lore with one home game remaining in his decorated career. Fine’s seven touchdown passes on the day broke his career high for single-game touchdown passes set last week at Charlotte when he had five. Fine completed passes to nine different receivers.
“It all starts with our preparation,” Fine said. “I think the juice on the sideline was there, and everyone just had fun and did their job. We started fast and that momentum continued throughout the game. It’s awesome when you prepare the right way and then go out and perform the right way.”
Fine became the seventh player in C-USA history to throw for 12,000 yards in a career (now 12,026), and he moved into seventh place all-time in C-USA with his school-record 91 career touchdown passes.
Mason Fine is a graduate of Locust Grove HS in Peggs, Oklahoma
