Matt Qualls (Cherokee) Named Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week

WACO, Texas – Lyndale James of LSU Shreveport (La.) and Matt Qualls (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) of Bacone College (Okla.) earned recognition as the Red River Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week for the dates of Feb. 16-22. This is the 14th award of the 2014-15 basketball season.

Qualls, the leading scorer in the NAIA with 26.2 points per game, continued his late-season surge with averages of 36.0 points and 11.7 rebounds in a 1-2 week for the Warriors. The senior forward notched 30 points and 11 boards in a 95-88 victory over Langston University (Okla.) last Tuesday. He followed with a career-high 47 points and 19 rebounds in the 88-82 defeat at the hands of LSUS. A native of Tahlequah, Okla., Qualls capped the week with an additional 31 points on Saturday in a 101-84 loss to conference front-runner LSUA. For the week, he was 45-of-79 shooting from field goal range. Bacone stands at 2-16 in conference play and 7-17 overall.

De’quentin Greer of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas), Curtis Jones of Langston University (Okla.), and Reginald Sonnier of University of the Southwest (N.M.) were additional nominees this week.
