Nizhoni Wheeler (Elwha Tribe) went the distance in a shutout of Chemeketa

The Lower Columbia College softball team was able to erase the sting of a bad road trip by bouncing back to sweep the Chemeketa Storm in a double header on April 18th in Kelso.

The Devils also gave head coach Traci Fuller her 200th college head coaching victory.

When Saydie Harris cleared the bases with a double in the bottom of the 5th, she triggered the milestone win via the mercy rule in a 13-3 victory over the Storm.  In her 8th season as the head coach at LCC, Fuller was awarded a framed keepsake to commemorate number 200.

The Devils then followed it up with a complete game victory from Nizhoni Wheeler (Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe) in a 4-0 win in the nightcap.

In the first game, Sarah Potwin went 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBI’s.  Lauren Lunt continued her hot hitting by going 2 for 4 with two doubles and five RBI’s.

Valeti Fifita, Harris and Kinzey Williams had two hits and an RBI.  Skylar Hunter also had two hits.

Trinity Naugle went the distance allowing six hits.

Coach Fuller’s 201st victory was keyed by the pitching of Wheeler.  Nizhoni had the best outing of the season scattering seven hits in seven innings with just one walk and five strikeouts.

Potwin went 2 for 3 and supplied another homer, her sixth of the season.  Hunter and Ellie Conley had RBI doubles.  Sophia Parson had a run scoring single.

The Devils go to 19-8 on the season and 12-6 in league play.

LCC will host the Big Bend Vikings in a non league double header on Saturday April 20th.
