No. 23 Haskell Indian Nations University Women’s Basketball 1 of 8 Teams Selected to A.I.I. Championship Tournament

site-logo(Lawrence, Kansas) – The Haskell Indian Nations University women’s basketball team has been selected to participate in the Association of Independent Institutions conference championships it was announced today by the A.I.I.

The women’s field will feature three ranked teams, including No. 4 College of the Ozarks, which is currently 20-3 on the year. No. 22 IU Northwest and 23rd-ranked Haskell currently own 18-7 and 19-5 records, respectively. Mount Mercy (13-12), Clarke (15-10), Northern New Mexico (11-18) and Johnson & Wales (11-17) round out the first seven selections.

The Haskell Indians athletic programs had been apart of the longtime MCAC conference that unexpectedly folded last summer leaving the Indians to scramble for games this season and a conference to belong to. The A.I.I. is a 16 member conference that “independent” NAIA schools participate with as a conference for schools who don’t belong to any of the other NAIA affiliated conference.

The Haskell Lady Indians currently sit in second place in the 16 team conference behind former a former MCAC conference team as well, the College of the Ozarks. Only 8 teams are selected to participate in the conference tourney that will be held at Hennessey Recreation Center on the campus of Mount Mercy from Feb. 26-28 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
