No. 9 Louisville Women’s Basketball Heads to Clemson for Thursday Evening Matchup

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women’s basketball team hits the road for a midweek game, traveling to Clemson for a Thursday matchup in Littlejohn Coliseum at 7 p.m.

The Feb. 12 contest will be broadcast on WKRD 790 AM in Louisville, with Matt Andrews (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst) on the call. Fans can watch the game through TigerCast, a free webcast on ClemsonTigers.com.

The No. 9 Cardinals (20-3, 8-2 ACC), who have won three of their last four games, captured win No. 20 on the year following a 48-35 decision over Pittsburgh on Sunday. It marked the program’s fifth-consecutive season in which it achieved at least 20 wins and the seventh time achieving the plateau under head coach Jeff Walz.

Louisville held Pittsburgh to just 21.0 percent from the floor in the win. The Cardinals scored 15 points off the Panthers’ 17 turnovers, while holding an 11-2 advantage in second-chance points.Sara Hammond recorded her fourth double-double of the season, tallying 11 points and 13 rebounds. Shawnta’ Dyer came off the bench to add 11 points and eight rebounds.

Freshman Mariya Moore is pacing the Cardinals in scoring (13.5) and assists (86), and she is one of just two freshmen in the country to average at least 13.0 points per game and own an assist-turnover ratio better than 1.5. Myisha Hines-Allen is averaging 12.3 points, and Hammond is third in scoring (11.3), while boasting the top rebounding mark (6.8).

Over her last three games, Hammond is producing 13.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.

Jude Schimmel is averaging 7.3 points and 27.7 minutes per game which is second on the team. Jude also has (51) steals on the season which currently ranks third in the ACC Conference.

The Tigers (9-15, 1-10 ACC) head into the game having lost 10 straight, with their only conference win coming against Virginia Tech in overtime on Jan. 2. Clemson most recently fell 89-60 on Sunday to then-No. 15 Duke. The Tigers shot 35.2 percent from the field, connecting on just 7-of-23 3-pointers. Duke outrebounded Clemson 41-29 and outscored the Tigers 44-12 in the paint. Clemson’s starters scored just 15 of the team’s 60 points.

Nikki Dixon led Clemson with 17 points off the bench, going 11-of-11 from the free throw line. Tiffany Lewis and Shelbie Davenport each added 13, and Alexis Carter had 11 points.

For the season, Dixon has team highs in scoring (15.5) and steals (36). Lewis (8.6) and Davenport (8.4) are each averaging better than eight points per game. Lewis has connected on 45 3-pointers, while Davenport has buried 33, and Chelsea Lindsay ranks first on the team with 22 blocks.

The Tigers are under the direction of second-year coach Audra Smith, who has a 22-34 record at the helm of the program. Clemson was picked to finish 14th in the ACC Preseason Media Poll after going 13-19 last year.
