EDMOND, Okla. – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University cross country swept the men’s and women’s races in the Central Oklahoma Land Run on Saturday at Edmond Santa Fe High School.
The OCU men, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, placed five runners in the top 10 and outran Cameron by 20 points while the women, ranked No. 21 in the NAIA, took five of the first 20 spots and defeated Central Oklahoma by 18 points.
“We were happy. Any time you can win, it’s a good day,” assistant coach Matt Aguero said. “Our main goal today was just to stay healthy.”
The rainy morning conditions did not seem to bother either squad too much. Temperatures were 62 degrees under overcast skies.
Peter Koskey, a junior from Keringet, Kenya, led the way for the Stars and won the 5K race with a time of 20 minutes and 2 seconds. Sophomores Mackenzie Wahpepah-Harris, of Norman, Okla., and David Mountford of Shotton, Wales, finished third and fourth respectively. Wahpepah-Harris finished with a time of 20:16, while Mountford finished at 20:26.
