LAWRENCE, Kan. – Oklahoma City University Mackenzie Wahpepah-Harris (Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma) seized a qualifying bid for the national meet on Thursday in the Kansas Relays at Rock Chalk Park.
Wahpepah-Harris, a junior from Norman, Okla., won the 1,500-meter race and collected an A standard qualifying bid with a time of three minutes and 50.48 seconds.
Vercoe-Curtis and Mountford followed in third and fourth place, respectively, for B standard qualifying times.
Vercoe-Curtis, a senior from Kelston, Auckland, New Zealand, crossed at 3:53.64, missing the A standard qualifying time by 0.13 seconds, while Mountford, a junior from Shotton, Wales, clocked a 3:55.29.
Hunter Swink, a senior from Oklahoma City, finished in 27th place in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.34. He missed the B standard qualifying time by 5.34 seconds.
The 2016 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships are scheduled for May 26-28 at the Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores, Ala.
OCU runs in the Tabor Invitational starting noon Saturday in Hillsboro, Kan.
