Oklahoma State Women Roll Past SWOSU, 91-53; Lakota Beatty (Caddo Tribe) with 6 Points for Cowgirls

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State’s women’s basketball team opened its 2014-15 campaign with a 91-53 exhibition victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Tuesday night in front of 1,567 fans inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowgirls scored the game’s first 12 points before the Lady Bulldogs got on the board at the 15:20 mark. OSU would build its lead to 16 at 26-10 near the halfway point of the period before SWOSU used a 10-2 run to cut the margin back to single digits at 28-20.

Leading by nine with 5:31 remaining, the Cowgirls used a 10-1 run over the next two minutes to build their biggest lead of the half at 18 before eventually heading into the half with a 42-26 advantage.

OSU would score the first 10 points of the second half before building its cushion to 30 with 14 minutes left in the game.

Sophomore Roshunda Johnson led all scorers with 24 points to go with seven rebounds and eight steals.

Johnson was joined in double figures by senior LaShawn Jones, who logged 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, and junior Brittney Martin and freshman Mandy Coleman, who each scored 12 points.

Lakota Beatty (Caddo/Lakota/Gros Ventre) added 6 points for the cowgirls to start off her sophomore season. She also had 2 assist, a steal and block as well on the evening.

The Cowgirls will close out their exhibition slate on Sunday when they host Arkansas-Monticello at 2 p.m.
