Robert Iron Shell (Sioux) Named GPAC Conference Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week for the Second Straight Week

For the second straight week Robert Iron Shell (Rosebud Sioux) has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week for his performance last week at the Sioux City Relays.

Iron Shell won four events at the Sioux City Relays and finished second in another, earning the meet’s Most Outstanding Athlete Award. In his signature event, the 400m, Iron Shell clocked a 47.88 and automatically qualified for nationals. He is currently ranked No. 1 in the GPAC and seventh in the nation in the open 400. He was also instrumental in helping the Cliff’s 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relays each earn a SC Relays crown. The 4×1 hit the NAIA provisional standard, while the 4×2 set a new Briar Cliff school record. Iron Shell was second in the 200m with a time of 21.78, finishing behind Dakota State’s Seth Boomsma, who is ranked seventh in the nation in the event.

Iron Shell and the Charger track and field teams will be at the Northwestern Invitational in Orange City, Iowa this Friday and Saturday.
