The Briar Cliff men’s track team finished third at tshis year’s GPAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Concordia. For the Cliff, it was the best finish in the history of the program and it was nearly even better. The Chargers finished with 105 points, just one point behind the seocnd place Bulldogs of Concordia.
Doane won the GPAC title with 177 total points, but Briar Cliff made a huge statement. Rusty Muncy was named the meet’s Outstanding Performer of the Meet after he alone scored 30.5 points. Muncy won the 60m in a time of 6.92 and he also won the 200m in a school record time of 22.08. Robert Iron Shell (Rosebud Sioux Tribe) continued his unbeaten streak in the 400m by claiming the title and along the way he set a new school and GPAC meet record with a time of 48.54. Iron Shell also hit an NAIA provisional standard in the 200m (22.25). Raheem Cowan won his fourth-straight indoor triple jump crown and he needed only two jumps to do it. His bound of 15.70m won by over a meter and was a new GPAC meet record. He continues to hold the No. 1 spot in the nation.
Other highlights included Mitchell Schleis notching a second place finish in the 1,000m (2:31.38), the 4x800m team registering a second place finish, Kyle Lorenzen finishing third in the 600m with a time of 1:22.94 and Joe Jackson finishing fourth in the mile with a time of 1:59.92 among others.
