Ruben Silvas (Pascua Yaqui Tribe) had 15 points but Nanooks Fall to Humboldt State

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Nanooks fell, 84-66 to the Humboldt State Lumberjacks in their finale of the Seawolf Jamboree on Saturday evening at the Alaska Airlines Center.

Both Adam Griffin and Ruben Silvas (Pascua Yaqui Tribe) had 15 points to lead the Nanooks, but it was not enough as a Humboldt State’s outside shooting was the difference in the game.

As a team, the Lumberjacks shot 50% from the three-point line (12-24), and were led individually by Austin Bryan who had a game-high 22 points and hit three 3-point field goals.

The Nanooks would tie the game only once, and never had the lead, as Humboldt State dictated the play throughout the contest. Silvas was Alaska’s top performer overall, as he added team-high totals of eight rebounds and four assists to his 15 points. He was also perfect (3-3) from beyond the arc.

As a team the Nanooks shot 8-24 (33.3%) from the 3-point mark, but just 30.6% (22-72) overall from the field. They did outrebound the Lumberjacks, however, as they edged that total 47-40, including 21 offensive boards.

Part of Alaska’s struggles offensively was due to Humbold State’s 11 total blocks, including five by David Howard (who also scored 19 points).

Alaska will now return home for a pair of games against NCCAA opponents Portland Bible on Dec. 19 and 20. The game on December 20 will serve as an exhibition game.
